FAQ
How long does a project take?
I say roughly 3 weeks because I often have other work competing for my attention, and want to undersell and overdeliver on time. A week or two is typical for the one-time engagement described on /pricing. Meta-consulting and ongoing discoverability work run on their own timelines, agreed on explicitly.
What do you need from me?
I need you to take this seriously. More often than not, my bottleneck is waiting for people to respond with information or decisions about their company. I need you to be reasonably responsive to my questions, messages, and requests to minimize delays in getting your site done.
Why Astro instead of WordPress?
Astro ships static HTML with almost no JavaScript, so pages load fast and stay fast. WordPress's plugin stack and database calls work against that by default. They're so carbon heavy too. The internet is a nation-state-level producer of emissions through energy waste, in no small part because of how many sites lean on builders like WordPress and Shopify. For a marketing site with a blog, you don't need a CMS that tries to be everything for everyone; you need something tailored. Astro is also now run by Cloudflare, which hosts sites like this one for free on Pages.
Do I own the site?
Yes. The code lives in your own GitHub repository from day one, and the site deploys from your account, not mine. You can hand it to another developer at any time. I respect your privacy, security, and intellectual property. I have no interest in taking your business or your assets.
What does hosting cost?
The site deploys on Cloudflare Pages' free tier, which covers the traffic a consulting practice will normally get. If that ever changes, I'll cover it (assuming no other functionality or resource use has been added to the account beyond the site we agreed on).
What does "carbon negative" mean here?
Every site I build is small and served from renewable energy infrastructure via Cloudflare. On top of that, I plant 100 trees per client via One Tree Planted and send enough money to support an entire family with water via charity:water. In the short term, that offsets my work's footprint several times over. I have longer term, much larger ambitions for climate stabilization.
What is AEO?
Answer engine optimization is the process of structuring content so AI systems like ChatGPT and Perplexity can find, trust, and cite it directly, similar to how SEO structures a site for search rankings.
Do you do ongoing work?
Only if you ask for it. The one-time build includes lifetime of quick fixes. Please be reasonable about what you think is a quick fix. Anything after that like new pages, continued discoverability work, a retainer, etc, etc is scoped and priced by value, not a subscription you're locked into.
